Test Purchasing Beware
Test purchasing is carried out by Weights and Measures officers and the police.
The intention is to test the robustness of the strategies in place to prevent underage sales. This covers all the age related products, tobacco, lottery, adult magazines, DVD's, solvents, glues, butane gas, knives, fireworks and alcohol.
Consequences and penalties are high, three consecutive failures in a period of three months can result in the temporary closure of your business, for up to 6 months, ( Tesco's have already been subject to an alcohol ban for this series of failures)
Your staff may be issued with an £80 fixed penalty notice, those members of staff involved with service and the DPS's are also at risk of having to answer to the magistrates court, risking a fine, criminal record and adverse publicity for both the member of staff and your business.
The risk to your business is clear, the sale of alcohol is conditional. Breach of those conditions can lead to the permission to sell being removed or altered.
